Premium players get lost turns returned to them, a few bonus turns, and are able to participate in tournaments. It doesn't cost much and helps pay server costs for the game. Its currently about US$3-50 per month to go premium.....(Discounts for 6 months or more).

Premium players also get some extra services in-game, such as a message archive, to view messages sent and received, archived news and war reports.

They also get access to build their own "Template" called topbars to display their empire data, including HTML display and Javascript functions for calculations. They can also try out and make copies of the established templates created by other Premium users.

Later in Age 19 an Empire History function was introduced which records some of the major game moves, such as buildings started and completed, land explored, land changed due to war, military hired and fired, Thieves caught etc. This may become a Premium only feature.
