Elves are tall, slender and beautiful. They have a deep love for all that is natural and they are happiest in woodland. They find the mystical arts quite easy to master, and are renowned throughout the lands of Gildor for their lavish entertainment and high celebration. They are naturally peaceful, but will fight hard for what is they consider to be rightfully theirs.

Tips from Gwynn ap Nudd

Elves are fairly flexible in the early game, being able to compete as either a defensive or offensive race for the first two hundred turns or so. Once axemen start appearing in large numbers and most other races turn turtle, it is probably best to bide your time until tier two units.

The most important elven building is the archery range. Not only does it give elves longbowmen, their racial unit and one of the first offensive tier two units, but it is also needed for the magic elm grove. It is also worth picking up the logger’s hut much earlier than with other races due to the morale bonus that only an elf receives from it. Elves generally excel in the mid-game, where their Longbowmen allow them to gather large amounts of land.

Towards the end game elves have other advantages. Merriment research, from the Pool of Moonlight, and the extra morale bonus from the sawmill, give them higher morale than most other races, meaning they can build faster on smaller amounts of land. The addition of Rocs can also make it very difficult to break an elf’s defences. An elf with a high percentage of walls, ballista and a Roc based army has high naval and land defence.

Though not as skilled as mef mages, elven wizards are among the better in the game. Magic should play a large role in the late game of any elf, both offensively and defensively. When casting Joyous Celebration the elf will even manage to hold off most offensive spells cast by mef.
